Three meetings highlight the developments and value of marine citizen science

 

A host of international and national initiatives, not least through the developments of digital media, are driving the development and recognition of the place of citizen science. Citizen science has been a particular interest of mine since the mid-1970s.  Citizen science is being increasingly focussed on a host of pressing environmental issues. You might find three upcoming meetings illustrating the current thinking and importance of marine citizen science of interest.

 

The South-West Marine Ecosystem webinars and conference will be covering twelve thematic topics covering major natural systems from oceanography to cetaceans and marine management systems from marine planning to plastic pollution. Citizen science is central to the information covered by many of these thematic topics. The Porcupine Marine Natural History Society is holding it’s annual conference at the end of March in St Andrews, Scotland. Porcupine has championed citizen science since its formation and there will  be a dedicated session on developing an understating the future of citizen science among other topics.
